“My manager ended our contract because I wouldn’t change these lyrics,” Iyah May writes on Instagram.
An Australian vocalist was reportedly booted from her label over lyrics calling out Big Pharma companies profiting off the global pandemic, political corruption, foreign wars and more.
Singer Iyah May says her song, âKarmageddon,â which also touches on cancel culture, ironically led to her own cancellation, with her manager terminating her contract over her refusal to change the lyrics.
âMy manager ended our contract because I wouldnât change these lyrics,â May wrote on Instagram last month.
âI wish this story wasnât true but it is. I was hesitant sharing this info but the more I share this song the more I realize Iâm not the only one feeling this way,â May explained in another post.
âMy manager didnât agree with the lyrics in my song and refused to work with me and support me until I changed the lyrics,â May stated in a subsequent Instagram update, adding, âso I said âbye.’â
Some of Karmageddonâs lyrics read:
Manmade virus watch the millions die / Biggest profit of their lives
Hereâs inflation thatâs your prize / This is Karmageddon
Turn on the news and eat their lies / Kim or Kanye pick a side
Cancel culture what a vibe / This is Karmageddon
Corporations swear they never lie / Politicians bribed for life
More than war, itâs genocide / This is Karmageddon
According to May, despite parting ways with the label, her song has been gaining traction, with the Streisand Effect apparently helping boost it.
Will the controversial song be able to break through the corporate censors and reach the masses?
